Patna, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Tuesday said that in the meeting of the GST Council, the benefits of reduction in taxes of 175 items should be met by the common people. He warned the producers and traders that if it was not done then action would be taken against them. Modi, who is also responsible for Bihar’s Finance and Commerce Department, said at a press conference here that in the meeting held at Guwahati of GATC, the tax of about 175 items, consolidated in the 28 percent tax category, was reduced to 18 percent. .
He claimed, “Most things except luxury items have come in the category of 18 percent.” Many items including fan, handgun, chocolate, goggles, shampoo, detergent powder, cottonseed, female and male toiletries, which were earlier in the category of 28 percent tax, have been brought under the category of 18 percent.
He said that its direct benefit should be met by ordinary people. He said in a vague accusation that if a trader or producer would profite and the public did not get the benefit then he would have a tough action against them.
He said that the state government will monitor it at its own level. Anti-profite authority has also been formed. State level screening committee is formed in which any common consumer can complain.
